New Comics Release for 12/12/18

I hope that you have been more nice than naughty because boy is this week a doozy! TONS of great new books coming out, the debut of Spider Man Into the Spiderverse this weekend, Amazon Prime screening of Aquaman….so much awesomeness, lets just jump in!

From Dark Horse this week, the world of Black Hammer expands a bit with a new one-shot Black Hammer Cthu-Louise #1. From the pages of Sherlock Frankenstein comes this horrific tale of Lovecraftian teenage angst. Spawned by the emissary of a Cthulhu god, Cthu-Louise struggles and is teased at school due to her monstrous appearance. Finally fed up with the bullying and abuse, she decides she will do anything to make herself "normal."

Also from Dark Horse this week, Hellboy Winter Special 2018 hits the racks! Three wintry tales featuring a Mike Mignola and Ben Stenbeck team-up for a New Year's Eve séance gone wrong when Hellboy visits a family's English home, Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá revisit B.P.R.D.: Vampire with a new tie-in story, and Tonci Zonjic returns to write and draw Lobster Johnson.

From DC this week, Batman Damned #2 hits the rack! Amidst all of the hoopla surrounding issue #1, Brian Azarello and Lee Bermejo’s Justice League Dark/Batman tale delves deeper into the murder mystery! As Batman's descent into the madness of Gotham City's decadent underbelly continues, he must try to exorcise some of his demons...and who better to help than the Demon, Etrigan himself. And where there's demons, there's also a Deadman, a Spectre, an Enchantress and a host of other supernatural friends and foes-it's a veritable Grand Guignol!

Also from DC this week, Scott Snyder and Jock take the reins for Batman Who Laughs #1 (of 6)! Left rattled by the events of DARK NIGHTS: METAL, Bruce Wayne must come face to face with the nightmares spawned from the Dark Multiverse. But even though evil devoured evil in the collapse of Challengers Mountain, the Dark Knight still has his doubts. He discovers that the Batman Who Laughs not only survived the fight with The Joker at the end of METAL, but now he is enacting a sinister plan across the Multiverse-something both terrifying and oddly familiar. But when Bruce Wayne realizes the only way to stop this madman is to kill him, he must consider violating the very rule Batman won't break...the same rule that created this insatiable villain-the Batman Who Laughs!

Staying in the Bat-world, Detective Comics #994 hits the shelves this week with a new creative team in Peter Tomasi and Doug Mahnke and begins the start of a story arc that will lead up to issue #1000! Commissioner Gordon calls in the Dark Knight Detective when there's a murder at the Gotham City Aquarium-staged to look exactly like Thomas and Martha Wayne's crime scene, right down to the Playbill and pearls. How does this bizarre homicide tie into the shadowy monster that attacks Dr. Leslie Thompkins? This creature looks to wage a war on Batman-and it's using Joker Gas to do it!

From DC/Vertigo this week Goddess Mode #1 makes its debut written by Zoe Quinn with art by Robbi Rodriguez! Don't miss the start of a new series by Hugo Award nominee Zoë Quinn and Spider-Gwen co-creator Robbi Rodriguez! In a near future where humanity's needs are provided for by a godlike A.I., it's one young woman's horrible job to do tech support on it. But Cassandra Price's life changes forever when she discovers a hidden digital world beneath our own, one where a group of super-powered women are locked in a secret war for the cheat codes to reality.

Lastly from DC this week, New Talent Showcase 2018 #1 hits the stands, and is an anthology of the latest graduates from the DC Talent Development Workshops. These new creative voices show off their skills by telling stories about some of DC's greatest characters including Batman, Catwoman, John Constantine, Wonder Woman, Zatanna and more!

From Image this week, Spawn Kills Everyone Too #1 (of 4) hits the racks! Written by Todd McFarlane with art by Will Robinson. More cuteness, more killing, and more issues!

From Marvel this week, Fantastic Four Wedding Special #1 hits the stands! Come and celebrate the impending nuptials of the Thing and Alicia Masters with a Ladies Night Out as only the First Family of Comics can do it! Guest-starring She-Hulk, Medusa, Crystal and more, it's the bachelorette party Alicia never expected-and one whose ribaldry will be interrupted by the arrival of a Surprise Super Villain! (And no, we don't mean Johnny Storm!) Meanwhile, the Thing has an unexpected meeting with his future father-in-law, the Puppet Master! Plus, Hembeck! The Fantastic Four family tree! And more! R.S.V.P. at your local comics retailer this December, and don't forget to kiss the bride!

Also from Marvel this week, Miles Morales is back! Before OR after you see Spider Man Into the Spider Verse check out the continued exploits of the titular character in his new ongoing title! Balancing his normal life, school, parents, etc...and super-heroing has never been easy, but when the Rhino and a cadre of mysterious criminals start plaguing Brooklyn, things take a dark turn. And Miles doesn't even know the half of it yet. Eisner Award-winner Saladin Ahmed (BLACK BOLT) and Young Gun Javier Garrón (ANT-MAN & THE WASP) bring you the latest incarnation of the coolest character in the Marvel Universe!

Lastly from Marvel this week, Star Wars Age of the Republic continues with Darth Maul #1. A living weapon of rage and bloodthirst, DARTH MAUL has stayed in the shadows of CORUSCANT waiting for his chance to strike against the JEDI ORDER! However, since tasting his first blood, the SITH lord struggles to contain his desire for destruction and questions the wishes of his methodically plotting master. Could Maul have had another path in life, or was he always fated to follow a dark road? Guest-starring DARTH SIDIOUS!

From Albatross Funnybooks comes Mega Ghost #1 (of 5). Can life get any weirder for junior occultist Martin Magus? Living in the haunted city of Dunwich Heights is strange enough for a kid investigating the unknown, but when he comes into possession of a bewitched ring, he discovers that he now has the power to summon Megaghost, a giant supernatural robot sworn to defend the world against the creepy things that go smash in the night!
