New Comics Release for 2/1/17

And just like that, February is here! A relatively light week this week, but some huge releases, nonetheless, so lets get right to it!

From Dark Horse this week, a new chapter in the Baltimore series begins with Baltimore: The Red Kingdom #1, written by Mike Mignola & Christopher Golden with art by Peter Bergting. With Lord Baltimore missing, and The Red King taking over the world his team has been driven apart with some of them dying while other are in hiding. What role will Baltimore take as evil finally threatens to consume the world?

From DC this week, Justice League #14 is out with story and art by Bryan Hitch. Broken, battered, and pinned down by a new alien threat, the Justice League is force to confront long simmering tensions between teammates before they can save the world. Grievances are aired and secrets are revealed in this special issue written and drawn by Hitch.

From Image this week, Walking Dead #163 is out and is a special $0.25 issue celebrating the 25^th anniversary of Image Comics. A new story arc starts here in “Conquered”. In the aftermath of the Whisper War, all is lost.

From Marvel this week, Cullen Bunn and Luke Ross helm the new Star Wars mini series with Darth Maul #1. Bred on hate, fear, and anger, steeped in the ways of darkness, and trained to kill. Darth Maul’s time as an apprentice to Darth Sidious has long been cloaked in shadows, but at last his tale of revenge is revealed.

From Aftershock this week, Blood Blister #1 hits the stands written by Phil Hester with art by Tony Harris. Sin is a joke to Brandon Hull. Morality a crutch for the weak, laws mere tools to be abused. But when the corruption he scoffed at begins to manifest on his once-perfect body, Hull finds himself cast into a hidden world of unspeakable horror from which there is no escape. How can you be saved when the evil possessing you is your own soul? Opening a jarring window on to a world of horror.

Lastly, from Dynamite, similar to the Red Sonja #0 a few months ago, Vampirella #0 hits shelves this week. Written by Paul Cornell with art by Jimmy Broxton, this prequel to the new series takes a very different path from tales before. Over a thousand years since Vampirella’s last appearance she is poised to make her fateful return, but to a vastly different world than she is used to.
