New Comics Release for 7/20/16

Trying to get a leg up on this week before I head out of town for San Diego Comic Con on Thursday this week. Anyway, it’s a fun week with a lot of exciting new goodies, some thrills, some chills, and some all-around great comics. Lets jump right in!

From Dark Horse this week we get a new series from superstar writer Jeff Lemire with art by Dean Ormston called Black Hammer. As the heroes from yesteryear find themselves settling down into their post-multiversal-crisis lives, they realize that trouble has a unique way of finding them, wherever they may be.

From DC this week new rebirth titles include Batgirl and the Birds of Prey Rebirth #1 AND Hellblazer Rebirth #1. With story by Simon Oliver and art by Moritat, John Constantine works to make his way back home to London, however a pissed off demon and a curse on his soul stand in the way. Constantine’s questionable ethics are pushed to the limit as he puts eight million souls on the line to get what he wants!

From Image this week two new series begin with Snotgirl #1 and The Hunt #1. The Hunt is written and drawn by Colin Lorimer and gives Irish mythology a distinctly modern twist utilizing a supernatural horror story about survival.

From Marvel this week, due to its hugely popular success, Deadpool and the Mercs for Money gets a new ongoing monthly series with superstar artist Cullen Bunn at the wheel and Iban Coello on art. This new series pits Deadpool as the horrible leader of a team of mercenaries who is constanly putting his “teammates” lives’ at risk for his own personal reward!

Lastly, from Archie Comics this week, Betty and Veronica #1 makes its gorgeous debut with the legendary Adam Hughes pulling double duty as both writer AND interior artist! This modern day update to Archie mythology sees B&V at odds when Pops’ Chocklit Shoppe is being taken over by a huge coffee company!
